Early on Friday, a friend of mine helped me take all my measurements. According to the drafting book i'm using, I need about two dozen measurements. My friend was through and we got some good measurements. However, I think we made a wrong turn somewhere when it came to establishing my waistline. You see, my actual waist is right up under my boobs, so we determined that using a measurement around my belly button would be a lot more reasonable (Otherwise I get a back length measurement of something stupid like 10 inches). Anyway, as you can see from my pic above, something went seriously wrong. You will not be seeing the pics of me wearing my muslin. The armholes are bigger than the sleeve, which is odd, to say the least. However, it feels fairly comfortable in the back and shoulders, so I might actually have something to work with here. I may revisit this in a day or two.

Tina what makes you think your waist if right under your boobs. If you put on something with a tight elasticized waist and bend over, it will wind up settling at your natural waist. See of that works for you. It sounds as if you are using the smallest part of your torso. As we women age, right under the boobs is smaller than our natural waist.
It may not have worked out perfectly but at least you do have something to work with!
Rachelle, I guess I get that idea from a lot of the sewing books I've read. Perhaps it's only one book, but I have seen this in the past. It said to find your waist, bend from side to side, and the narrowest part is the waist. That would be a few inches below my boobs. However, when my friend was taking my measurements, she also thought that was a bit weird, and we agreed to take the measurement at the belly button. I think that was a good idea, but I think the elastic that we were using to mark the belly button line shifted a bit, because as you can tell from the pics, there is a huge difference from the center back and side seam. I'm going to try again though.
Ellen, I think that was the whole idea. The back piece fit great in the shoulders, so I can at least compare that to some patterns and see what I can come up with. I'm also going to retake some of the measurements that I think got skewed, and start over.
